Spring is a perfect time to explore the UNESCO World Heritage listed Hwaseong Fortress at Suwon. Join us for a walk along the wall of this intact Joseon historical fortress.

About the event

Hwaseong Fortress was built in 1794 -1796 to protect the strategically important city of Suwon by King Jeongjo as well as to honour and house the remains of his father Crown Prince Jangheon.


The fortress wall extends for almost 6 kms around central Suwon and was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997 for its outstanding universal value.


We will start our walk of the Suwon Hwaseong Fortress walls at Paldalmun Gate at 10.30 am. We will head towards Hwaseoman Gate and will stop for coffee near Janganmun Gate at around 11.30. Following coffee we will continue along the wall returning to where we started. For those who wish there are lunch options in the local neighbourhood.


Flexible finishing time and transport options along the way.


Please wear sensible walking shoes and bring water. The walk is relatively easy, on mainly paved surfaces. Whilst most of the wall…
