EASTERN SOCIAL WELFARE SOCIETY (ESWS)
Eastern Social Welfare Society (ESWS) was founded in 1972 with the mission of “realizing the value of life.” For the past 48 years, they have been offering comprehensive social welfare services for children, single moms, senior citizens and the physically challenged. They also offer community welfare programs in Korea and abroad to meet the needs of the changing societies. ESWS in Seoul provides services for orphaned children, taking in abandoned babies and finding them foster and permanent families. They also support single mothers.
BASS has supported ESWS by donating 1.5 million KRW (50% of money raised at the BASS Christmas Fair in November 2018) towards the cost of formula milk for the babies, necessary because the government has recently stopped contributing funding for milk. We then donated a further 1 million from our 2019 BASS Christmas Fair. With the COVID-19 pandemic all additional funding has become extremely important.
Prior to Covid 19, we had also been helping on an ongoing voluntary basis at the orphanage. All the babies who were taken care of at the Babies' Homes are now with foster families. However, ESWS are still supporting them by sending items they need including milk bottles, formula, and supporting medical expenses that they need. ESWS needs continuous support for those babies under their care.

The single mothers supported by ESWS also run their own café at the centre in Hongdae. It is a lovely area with good coffee, tea and cakes and is open to anyone. We held a BASS coffee morning earlier in the year and encourage you to visit sometime. Directions: Hongik University Station Exit Number 3

Each kit contains materials for making two child sized masks: 4 pieces of precut cotton fabric, a leaflet, a card for your message, a needle, pins, thread, and plastic locks for the ear bands.
How it works: Purchase DIY Mask KIT from ESWS, Fill in the TWOGATHER form, Send the finished masks to ESWS to be distributed to the children in their care.
