About the event

Deoksugung Palace began as a temporary residence in 1593 after the Japanese invasion destroyed the capital's palaces. Today it is known for its unique blend of traditional and western style buildings symbolising Korea's transition to modernity. It is cherished historical site offering a glimpse into the late Joseon and Korean Empire periods.


A Commemorative Exhibition for the 80th Anniversary of Liberation:Landscapes of Homeland and Longing is held in National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art complex in the pslace grounds. It showcases Korean landscape paintings from the colonial period to the present day focusing on the themes of "hometown" and the "longing for home".


The Radiant Heritage of Independance special exhibition is housed in the Dondeokjeon building. It displays over 110 artefacts tied to Korea's anti Japanese resistance. Some of which are shown to the public for the first time.
