BASS is organizing a walk past the five grand palaces in Seoul in support of this cause and we invite anyone to join us. You do not need to be a BASS member. The only fee is the KRW20,000 ESWS participation fee to support children. The challenge is to walk 10,000 steps and post a photo of your walk on social media with the hashtag #ESWS and #walkathon. (If you don't use social media, please come anyway. BASS will post a group photo on its website.)
This will be a fun walk that not only takes us past all the palaces, but also passes by numerous museums, galleries, bars and cafes in hidden alleys, a temple and Bukchon Hanok Village.
You must register on the BASS website and if you are registering for more than one person, please either register everyone separately or when you type in your first name please indicate how many are in your party. For example: First name: Mary (+3) Or Mary, John, Kate, Rose.
We will meet at City Hall Station, Exit 2 at 10am and will walk along the pedestrian friendly Deoksugung Palace wall, passing the Seoul Museum of Art and some interesting artwork along the way. We will pass the Jeongdong Observatory, Jeongdong Theater and Jeongdong Park before reaching the Gyeonghuigung Palace. We will then pass the Seoul Museum of History, Emu Cinema and Art Space, and then pass through some small alleys with bars and restaurants on our way to Gyeongbokgung Palace. From there we will walk through Bukchon Hanok Village on our way to our final two destinations, Changdeokgung Palace and Changgyeonggung Palace.
We will enter Changdeokgung Palace (KRW 3,000) and walk through it to Changgyeonggung Palace (KRW1,000) which has beautiful grounds, a lovely pond and greenhouse. From there we will walk along a newly opened path that connects Changdeokgung Palace to the Jongmyo Shrine. We will finish at Changdeokgung Palace, near Anguk Station, or for anyone who is interested, we can visit Ikseong-dong Hanok village, with many cafes and restaurants.
If you wish to dress in traditional clothing, you can enter the palaces for free.
Please wear comfy shoes and bring KRW 20,000 for ESWS.
