About the event

We will walk along the Seoul City wall to the top part of the Ihwa Mural Village (a gentle uphill climb) and then down through Naksan Park and back up to the lower part of the Ihwa Mural Village.   This section of the wall and Naksan Park offer beautiful views of the city and mountains and is beautiful with the cherry blossoms in the Spring.  Ihwa mural village at one time was destined for demolition.  However in 2006, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism started the Naksan Cultural Project to transform the poor neighborhood into an artistic tourism destination with sculptures, murals and other artwork by local artists.  Eventually,  however, some of the residents became unhappy with the tourist invasion and a few of the popular staircase murals have been painted over.  It has seen better days but it is still interesting to explore.  From the mural village we will head down to Hyehwa for a coffee or lunch.  Hyehwa is Seoul’s theatre-district, also known as Daehangno derived from dehag “university” because there are several universities in close proximity.  There are a few shows that have English subtitles.  There are many restaurants, cafes, shops, and a pedestrian street with shops similar to those found in Myeongdong.  Marronnier Park houses a tourist information office where you can enquire about and book tickets to the shows. On weekends, you will find street performers and musicians.  This wall will be about 5K.
